How Bump and Binky Began
You wouldn’t believe my shock when I found out that Nigeria alone accounts for nearly 20% of global maternal deaths (according to WHO). That means approximately one in five maternal deaths worldwide occurs in Nigeria. This heartbreaking reality became a call to action—something had to change.
Hi everyone, I’m Itohan Unoarumhi, and Bump and Binky Foundation is my way of making a difference for moms and babies. As a medical doctor, I understand the importance of proper care during pregnancy and early postpartum to save lives. It’s heartbreaking to think that women die at a time when they should be celebrating the joy of new life. Women, especially in underserved communities, are not getting the care they need. It could be someone close to you—a mother, sister, or friend. That’s why I started this foundation—to make sure no woman feels left behind during one of the most important times of her life.
Here’s the reality: According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 295,000 women died during pregnancy or childbirth in 2017. And in 2020, a staggering 2.4 million newborns didn’t survive their first month of life. In Nigeria, it’s even more alarming—nearly 20% of global maternal deaths happen here. These aren’t just numbers; they’re lives cut short, families left grieving, and futures lost. That’s why at Bump and Binky Foundation, we’re committed to turning these stories of loss into opportunities for change—providing the care and support that mothers and babies deserve.
At Bump and Binky, we step in to make a difference. We’re here to bridge the gap—to be that lifeline for moms and babies who need it most. Whether it’s funding antenatal visits, providing blood pressure kits, or giving out prenatal vitamins, our goal is simple: to support moms every step of the way and give every baby a chance to thrive. We’re not just about tackling the tough stuff, though; we’re also about celebrating the beautiful moments—from baby’s first kick to their first smile. This journey isn’t just about survival; it’s about joy, love, and hope.
Today, Bump and Binky Foundation is growing, and I couldn’t be prouder. We’re aligning with global goals like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (UN SDG 3), which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for everyone, everywhere. For us, this means doubling down on our efforts to ensure that no mom or baby is left behind, particularly in communities where the need is greatest.
Every one of us can make a difference. It might be as simple as encouraging an expecting mom to attend her antenatal visits or supporting a new mother in your community. Small actions can have a big impact. For those who want to do even more, Bump and Binky Foundation is here as a way for you to contribute. Click “Join Us” or “Donate” to start making a difference today. Together, we can change lives—one mom and one baby at a time.

With love and care,
